Some of these channels are available without subscriptions, while others require subscriptions to sharing servers.
The UEFA Champions League, often referred to simply as the Champions League, is an annual European football tournament organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) since 1955. It features the best football clubs in Europe.
This tournament is considered the most important club-level football competition globally, with its final match being one of the most watched sporting events annually worldwide. It attracts over 100 million television viewers.
Before 1992, the tournament was officially known as the European Champion Clubs’ Cup, commonly referred to as the European Cup or the European Champions’ Cup. Initially, it followed a knockout format, with only the national league champions and the title holders participating to defend their title. The tournament began expanding in 1990, introducing group stages with home and away matches and an increased number of teams. In 1993, it was renamed to its current name, the UEFA Champions League, and the number of participating clubs was increased, eventually reaching the current format of 32 clubs. The new format of the UEFA Champions League began in the 1992-1993 season.
In 2014, UEFA decided to grant an additional slot in the UEFA Champions League to the holder of the UEFA Europa League title (in addition to its domestic slots). This decision aimed to increase the importance of the Europa League. Consequently, Sevilla qualified for the 2015-2016 UEFA Champions League, despite not securing one of the top four positions domestically. This made La Liga the second league in the tournament’s history to have five clubs in the group stage. The first league to achieve this was the English Premier League in the 2005-2006 season when Liverpool (the title holder in 2005) earned an additional slot due to not qualifying through the top four domestic spots.
The title has been won by 22 different clubs, with 13 of them winning it multiple times. Real Madrid holds the record for the most titles, having won the tournament 14 times. Currently, Real Madrid holds the title, having won the 2021-22 season by defeating Liverpool 1-0 in the final match held at the Stade de France in Paris, France.
